Maritime security is a concept that was initially a strong national focus in the law of the sea, which was mainly focused on the protection and integration of the state, the nation and the repulsion of hostile states, so that territorial integrity has been preserved and maritime threats have been able to be neutralized at sea, and a distinct form of naval law has been developed in this area. Over time, however, maritime security has developed into a wider variety of dimensions. In this paper, considering the sensitivity of passive defense in the maritime area, the role of navy in the formation and strengthening of the leap for sustainable maritime security is examined and the results show that the opportunities created by using the strengths seeks to take advantage of opportunities such as expanding the ability to implement the principles and considerations of passive defense in missions in different areas of the sea and open waters, taking advantage of the special maritime position, geomorphological potentials of coasts, the Strait of Hormuz, ports and islands of Iran in the missions assigned to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Navy.
